What Are Drug Test Kits?
Drug testing involves taking samples of saliva, urine, blood, breath or sweat. This is followed by an analysis of the sample to detect the presence of certain substances. If the screening test is found to be positive it is followed by a confirmatory test.
Drug screening that takes saliva or urine as a sample is as simple as a home pregnancy test. A saliva drug test or a urine drug test can be carried out quickly and easily at home or at the workplace. All you need to do is to follow the instructions on taking the test.
Drug testing kits for sweat, breath or hair are more complicated than those for urine and saliva. In this case the samples have to be sent to a laboratory first so that the results can be obtained.
The various methods used in drug tests may not provide the same information. Drug tests that make use of the hair as a sample have a detection time of 12 weeks or more, depending on the length of the hair. Tests that make use of urine take 1 to 3 days, those that use saliva as sample take 1 to 36 hours and drug tests that utilise sweat as sample take 1 to 14 days
.
All drug testing methods used come with a unique set of problems. Urine testing is usually the most inexpensive of all testing techniques, but there is a possibility that the urine could be adulterated, and the person being tested might have given you a fake, tampered or diluted sample.
Urine drug tests are fast and easy, but they should be used only as a preliminary screening test. If the result is found to be positive, then this should be followed by a confirmatory test that makes use of another drug testing technique, which is less easy to tamper with.
Hair testing is a costlier drug testing technique, but provides a much superior quantitative and qualitative analysis of the drug abuse. However, there is an issue with hair testing as well – dark-haired men and women are more likely to test positive for the drug than those who have blond hair.
Saliva drug tests are more convenient, more acceptable and easier. They are not so easy to tamper with as the saliva sample is obtained under strict supervision. But these drug tests have a shorter detection window. Another major issue is that saliva does not detect cannabis easily, which is the most common drug abused in the UK, especially by teens and young adults.
Drug tests that make use of sweat as a sample are more expensive and require the use of a specialised laboratory for the analysis. However, the sweat sample can easily be contaminated by passive exposure. Still, this drug testing technique is non-invasive and is not easy to tamper with. This makes it better than the other methods discussed here.
What Kind of Drugs Show up on Drug Test Kits?
Drug testing kits of today are capable of detecting several types of drugs, much more so than in the past. This is because of the vast improvement in biotechnology. Also, with the increasing use of more advanced onsite drug testing kits in the UK, it is now possible to test for many more drugs than just Cannabis, Cocaine and Opiates, as in the past.
Manufacturers have been very successful at responding quickly to the latest trends in drug usage. The drug testing kits of today can detect even new drugs or banned substances that are now sold in the underground market in addition to the common drugs such as Cannabis, Ecstasy, Cocaine, Opiates, Methamphetamine and Benzodiazepines.
We sell a thirteen drug integrated cup drug testing kit. This is the most advanced urine drug test kit sold by us.
Why Use Drug Test Kits?
Screening your employees, patients or family members for drugs with the help of drug testing kits can help dissuade them from abusing drugs and other banned substances. As an employer, you are legally obliged to make sure that none of your employees are resorting to drug abuse.
In the UK, the Health and Safety Act has made it mandatory for all businesses to ensure a drug free workplace. Drug use can be very dangerous as it affects the individual’s ability to take the right decision or make the right choices and affects their reasoning. It could put them and other people in physical danger as well, which is why those under the influence of drugs are not allowed to drive or operate any machinery.
Workplace Drug Testing Laboratory Confirmation Test Kit
Our drug testing kits are ideally suited to screening tests or preliminary tests for drugs. If the tests turn out to be negative, then nothing more needs to be done. But if the tests are positive, then this should be followed by a confirmatory test, which is usually done in a laboratory.

Understanding False Positives
Let’s talk about something that keeps HR managers up at night – false positives. While drug testing kits are highly accurate, certain everyday items can trigger unexpected results. That morning poppy seed bagel? It might flag for opiates. Your cold medicine could indicate amphetamines. Even CBD products might show up as THC. That’s why we recommend a two-step approach: initial screening followed by lab confirmation. Think of it like your spam email filter – it’s better to double-check important messages than accidentally delete them. Smart employers always verify positive results before taking any action.
