Rohypnol: What Is It?

The potent tranquilliser, Rohypnol, produces sedative side effects, as well as muscle relaxation and amnesia. It is possible to get it on prescription for those with some medical issues lie insomnia and severe back pain.

The tranquilliser is a white tablet and has ‘ROCHE’ on one side of it. It is tasteless and odourless, which is the scary part of it, and takes just 10 minutes to affect the system.

What Should I Do If I Think My Drink’s Been Spiked?

If you feel drunk, odd or sick after just a couple of drinks, and you know that you shouldn’t be drunk, then your drink may have been spiked. If you are out with friends, talk to them about your feelings and lead where you are immediately – ask them to take you to somewhere safe. When you are safe, ask someone to stay with you until all effects are no longer evident. Remain with someone you can trust; many rape victims’ attackers are someone they know!

If you are alone, talk to the manager or landlord of the establishment and ask them to get you somewhere safe. You can then call a friend or family member to get you home. Never trust a stranger to get you home; this is potentially the person who spiked your drink.

I Think I’ve Been Date Raped: What Should I Do?

Due to the hazy memory side effects of Rohypnol, it is possible that you won’t recall the full night’s events the next day. If your genital area is sore, there is physical evidence of intercourse on your body and your underwear is around your room, it is possible that you have been a rape victim.

If you believe if this is the case, report it to the police at the very first chance. You need to insist that urine and blood samples are taken immediately as it takes 48 hours to leave the system. Have a friend – or lawyer if possible – accompany you when making the report.

The Rohypnol Test

It is possible to test a specific drink or your urine sample to see if there is Rohypnol in your system. The test can be completed on wine, mixers, beers, soft drinks and alcopops. It cannot be carried out on straight (pure) spirits. Use this test straight away when you are suspicious of spiking.

How to Test a Drink

• Take your cassette out of the foil pouch. Don’t break your seal until you are ready to start the test.
• On the bottom of the test is an absorbent strip under a protective cap. Don’t throw away the cap after you remove it and be sure not to touch the strip.
• Take your suspect drink and pout the strip inside the drink. Make sure that the liquid doesn’t touch the plastic case of your test. Allow for 5-10 seconds for the test to absorb the liquid and the liquid will move up your strip when doing this.
• Once 10 seconds has elapsed take the strip out of the drink and the replace your protective cap.
• Put the tеst on flat surface so the test lines can develop.
• Negative results will appear right away but it can take up to 5 minutes for positive test results to come back. You should read the result within 10 minutes or there could be a false result.

These strips don’t work in straight shots such as whiskey or vodka.

How to Test a Urine Sample

Urine can be tested the following morning after you think your drink may have been spiked or if you arе generally suspicious that you have been slipped a spiked drink.

• Take the cassette out of the foil pouch and don’t break your seal until you’re ready to begin the test.
• Take the plastic cup and get a urine sample from the person who is to be tested.
• Take the cap off the bottom of your test which reveals the absorbent strip. Don’t throw away your cap and be sure not to touch the strip.
• Take the strip and dip it carefully into the urine sample. Make sure that no urine touches the plastic case. The test will take about 5-10 seconds and the urine will begin to move up your strip.
• Once 10 seconds has elapsed remove the strip and then place the protective cap back on.
• Put your test on a flat surface so the test lines can develop.
• Negative results will occur right away but it might take about 5 minutes for positive results to occur. After 10 minutes you may get a false reading so read the strip right away.

Test Results

On your cassette are 2 letters by the strip. “T” is the test band and the “C” is your control band.

A line that’s coloured pink should be seen on the C or control band which indicated that the strip has worked correctly. In you have no line in C then you have a malfunctioning strip and another test will need to be conducted.

If there’s a second pink line that appears in your T or test band this is a negative result even if the line is very faint. In this case there’s been no detection of bezos in the test. If you get no additional line in T then you have a positive result with bezos in the sample.

For a negative result you get two lines. With a positive result there is only one line in the C or control band.

What I Do With These Results?

A Negative Result

When you get a negative result this means that you had no bezos in your system or when the test was taken. Your drink still may have been spiked with a drug called GHB or gammahydroxybutyrate. This liquid is odourless and colourless with a salty taste to it. If you think your drink might have been spiked just leave it and buy another one. Be sure to watch your new drink closely.

A Positive Result

If you get a positive result then throw away your existing drink. Make sure you notify your friends that your drink was spiked so they can watch you. If you get a drunk feeling right away or notice any strange symptoms you should get out of the establishment immediately and ensure that you go to a safe location.
